Rev. Dr. Summerow
Meet Dr. Summerow. Or is it
Reverend Summerow?
Actually, its both. Stephen Summerow
divides his time between a successful career as an
optometrist and a very rewarding one as a pastor for a
local church.
Dr. Summerow is President and
CEO of Summerow & Associates inside Lens Crafters in
the Macon Mall.
For 7 years, he practiced optometry in
Atlanta and South
Florida, but for the last 6 years
has practiced in Macon, GA.
Dr. Summerow feels strongly
that most people fail to have yearly eye exams and would
like to share the following information about
glaucoma:
Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of
blindness in the
U.S.
It most often occurs in people over age 40. People with
a family history of glaucoma, African American, and
those who are very nearsighted or diabetic are at a
higher risk of developing the disease.
It is known as the silent vision stealer because
the most common type of glaucoma develops gradually,
painlessly, and without symptoms. If the disease
develops without intervention it will gradually lead to
peripheral visual field loss, and blurred vision. If it
is not controlled it will lead to blindness.
Glaucoma is an eye disease in which the internal
pressure in your eyes increases enough to damage the
nerve fibers in your optic nerve and cause vision loss.
Glaucoma cannot be prevented but if diagnosed early
enough it can be controlled. Vision lost to glaucoma
cannot be restored. That is why the American Optometric
Association recommends, at the minimum an annual eye
examination by a licensed eye care professional for
people at risk. Your doctor depending on your condition
may recommend more frequent examinations to maintain
your eye health.
Please have an eye exam soon and be checked for
glaucoma (preferably at Summerow &
Associates).
Originally from
Macon,
Summerow graduated from
Southwest
High
School. He and his wife
Joanna, have two sons, Stephen Daniel, age 6 and
Jonathan, age 3.
They also have been blessed with the opportunity
to parent his nephew, Xeryus Gittens, age 17.
Reverend Summerow has been
pastoring for the last 4 years at
Oldfield
Baptist
Church in
Perry,
GA. He feels that
outreach is a very important part of any church and
Oldfield Baptist has its own prison ministry, led by
Minister Charleather Greene. Reverend
Summerow can often be seen walking through the community
in an effort to help those in need.
The Reverend Dr. Summerow invites any and all to
join him in praising the Lord at the following location
