Congressman Bishop Opens New Congressional Office In Macon

Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) held a ribbon cutting and open house to announce the opening of a new Second Congressional District Office in Macon to provide services for Georgians from throughout the area. Congressman Bishop was joined by Mayor Robert Reichert, the County Commissioners, Main Street Macon, the Macon Chamber of Commerce, NewTown Macon, and dozens of visitors from Macon and other Middle Georgia communities.

"First and foremost, it is my absolute pleasure to greet you as your Congressman. It has been ten years since my office last served the good people of Bibb County, and I am blessed to be back in Macon once again." said Congressman Bishop. "This new office brings the wide range services we provide closer to home for the people and communities of Macon, and I invite everyone from throughout the Second Congressional District to visit our offices, get to know our staff, and to receive assistance whenever you may need it."

"Having Congressman Bishop's Office in the heart of Macon is a great resource for our citizens, and I want to thank him and his staff for making this possible," said Mayor Robert Reichert.

"It is good to have Congressman Bishop back in Bibb County and I am extremely glad that his office now has a physical presence right here in downtown Macon." said the Honorable Sam Hart, Chairman of the Bibb County Board of Commissioners.

"We are thrilled to welcome Congressman Bishop to Downtown Macon. We hope that he will have an opportunity to experience the dramatic changes that are occurring on a daily basis," said Mechel McKinley, the Manager of Main Street Macon. "New businesses and new residents are changing the face of Downtown in a very positive way. Having a representative from his office on the ground here will benefit both Macon and the middle Georgia area."

The Second District includes 29 Middle and Southwest Georgia counties, including the areas of Macon and Bibb County, which were added to the District in the new reapportionment plan that went into effect this year with the start of the 113th Congress.

This is the third office in the district now open to provide services to constituents who need help with the federal government, including issues relating to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, veterans’ services, and military service. The Macon office will focus on providing services to constituents in Bibb, Crawford, Taylor, and Peach counties; Congressman Bishop’s two other Second Congressional District offices are located in Albany and Columbus. The new office is located at 682 Cherry Street, Suite #302 in Macon, Georgia. Additional contact information can be found at
