The Steppers Club Ball Comes To Macon On Labor Day Weekend

WB And Me!, The United States Black Golfers Association, and Steppin Organizations nationwide are planning to gather in "Mac-Town," The Heart of Georgia, during Labor Day Weekend (August 30th through September 3rd) for The Steppers Club 8th Annual Black & White Steppers Ball (w/a Cherry Drop) at the Ramada Plaza & The Macon City Auditorium. This high profile and much anticipated social event will attract hundreds of steppers and spectators from across the country that want to learn to step or to step with the Master Steppers and Instructors of the world.

Steppin is a dance of unity within a positive atmosphere, currently enjoyed and adopted by people throughout American society under the reference of Hand Dancing, Ballroom Dancing, Swing, Jitterbug, and the Bop. It’s a dance consisting of two or more people dancing as partners in synchronization to a 6- or 8- count beat to musical sounds of Jazz, Soul, Funk, R&B, Neo Soul, or Uptempo music. Steppin originated in Chicago's African American community and is gaining rapid popularity in dance communities in Atlanta, Birmingham, Detroit, Huntsville, Houston, Dallas, LA, Sacramento, Phoenix, Miami, Orlando, North & South Carolina, Milwaukee, Maryland, Ohio, Indiana, Oakland, New York, Seattle, DC, Maryland, Minneapolis, St. Paul, Virginia, and Jamaica, WI, and now Macon.

The Steppin Community is ever growing and so is the enthusiasm for this annual event and the love for this elegant dance. Radio stations across the country, including WRBV-FM 101.7, are stimulating their listening audiences with smooth beats of Steppin music, discussing national competitions with Steppin Organizations and having on-air dialogues with Steppin Instructors. Savvy internet users navigate their way through the web to find classes and sets of this beautiful and elegant dance in their local areas.

Sarah Teagle, a Maconite, is the organizer of the event, founder and CEO of The Steppers Club. She attributes her Steppin skills to LC Henderson, Master Stepper, Originator of the 8-count ideology and CEO of The Steppers Workshop. Ms. Teagle recently received an award from Inside Steppin Magazine for her nationwide advancement of promoting the art form of Chicago-style Steppin. Starting August 3rd, Ms. Teagle will have a monthly steppers workshop and steppers set in Macon in conjunction with AFI Entertainmenton First Fridays at the Ramada Plaza.
