Carol W. Hunstein

Supreme Court Justice

At age 23, Carol Hunstein was a divorced, single mother who had lost her left leg to cancer.  She is a study in overcoming adversity, having attended college from 1968 until 1976, when she received her Juris Doctorate from the Stetson University College of Law and was admitted to the Georgia Bar Association.  She served as the first female Superior Court Judge in Dekalb County and in 1992, was nominated by Governor Zell Miller to the Supreme Court of Georgia, only the second woman in Georgia history to serve in that position.  Since her nomination, she has been re-elected by voters three times, most recently in November of 2006.  Justice Hunstein also serves as an adjunct professor at Emory University.
