Thursday, August 8, 2024, was a special day for a group of special citizens as they were featured at the Rhythm and Rally Pickle Ball venue at the Mayor’s Council of Clergy Luncheon. They, Gifted Harmony Choir, became the first group to celebrate with more than 100 ministers at the world’s largest Pickle Ball facility.
The Gifted Harmony Choir was founded in 2016 by then 15-year-old Leah Duval, aiming to bring the joy of music to individuals of all abilities throughout Middle Georgia. The mission of the choir is to make music accessible to all, fostering inclusivity, diversity, and a shared love of music throughout the community of Middle Georgia and beyond. Gifted Harmony has a special focus to involve individuals with special needs in the joy of creating music transcending race, gender, age, and ability. They are accompanied by talented musicians Shelia Bell Hughes and Janice Habersham.
Dr. Henry Ficklin, Executive Director of Community Affairs said, “Our luncheons give us a chance to let religious leaders know of the mayor’s projects, opportunities, and other work, as well as to hear directly from him on issues they see impacting our community.” Ficklin continued, “What’s especially exciting about this month is they get to see the world’s largest indoor pickleball facility and hear a very special group of music makers.”
The Council typically meets every other month to give local faith leaders an opportunity to discuss issues facing their congregants and the community at large. They also have the chance to talk with other ministers and organizations aimed at promoting peace and justice in our community.
