MWA District 2 Rep. Shares Future Plans Following December 6 Run-Off Win and Board Return

Desmond BrownFollowing a December 6 runoff win over challenger Lindsay “Doc” Holliday, Macon Water Authority District 2 Representative Desmond D. Brown is feeling vindicated.

His win came after overcoming three other candidates among a field of five in November. Brown stayed alive grabbing 57 percent or 6,211 votes during the runoff election. He considers the final count a decisive sign of voters’ desire to have him back on the board.

Brown shared his thoughts recently with the Middle Georgia Informer in an exclusive Q & A on what his win means, returning as District 2’s representative, and his future political plans.

C.T.: Congratulations on your win. What were the deciding factors that contributed to that?

D.D.B.: My win came from me trusting in The Lord. My faith in God is all I had to rely on. Black media was also instrumental. If I didn’t have those platforms to constantly share my side, people that voted for me wouldn’t have heard other versions to the stories that were dominating mainstream media. I thank black media for giving me a voice. Namely, WDDO radio, Ask Elaine, and the Middle Georgia Informer newspaper.

C.T.: In your estimation, what previous work as District 2 representative resonated with voters and resulted in them supporting you again?

D.D.B.: I’m the “Whistle Blower”. I show up and I’m outspoken. My knowledge, experience and education about stormwater helped me to prevail. I was out in the community monitoring areas that was affected by ratepayers’ home and property. I was the one that challenged the board to look at redistricting differently and how it was handling the Sunshine Law. Georgia State Senator David Lucas refers to me as “a statesman, not a politician.” The people in District 2 are not just my constituents and supporters. They’re my family. I grew up in this District and know it well.

C.T.: What do you want to say to aspiring public servants?

D.D.B.: If you plan to get into politics then please be for the people. And don’t be afraid to step to them. If you have a chance to serve a long time, look for protegees. There’s a tendency to stay too long and not look for replacements that can be groomed into future leaders.

C.T.: As we close, what’s your long-term plans for the Macon Water Authority District 2?

D.D.B.: I’m focused on getting back to the business of Dist.2 and being the best, I can be with God’s help and their support.  I’m anxious to fulfill my promise of being “ready to work for you”.
