As Beyond The Bell, located at 3115 Vineville Ave Macon, begins its third year of prevention services to Macon-Bibb youth, and families, there are several free programs on the horizon and the community is welcome and appreciated for their participation.
On December 4, 2023, from 11:00 AM-3:00 PM, senior citizens are invited to Pearl Stephens Village 3321 Napier Ave. Macon for a workshop titled Music, the Healer of Alzheimer’s and Dementia and the Psychological Effects of Music. The workshop will be presented by Ava “the Aviator” Johnson of H.E.R. Records from New Orleans, LA. It has ben determined that music can re-activate memory and stimulate the memories of the elderly. Lunch will be served and transportation can be provided if necessary.
On January 18, 2024 Beyond The Bell is partnering with the Department of Public Health, North Central Health District for an opioid town hall meeting. This is a free community event and all are welcome to attend. Macon-Bibb-County along with other communities is suffering from a high number of opioid overdoses which has reached crisis level. Between 2019 and 2021 there has been a 101% increase from fentanyl overdoses in the community, with several recent overdoses in Macon-Bibb which drastically changes these numbers. This town hall meeting will provide valuable information from various professionals serving on a panel. Panel members include Marissa Cody, Overdose Surveillance/Planning Specialist with the North Central Health District, local law, EMC and fire department representatives, registered nurses, and members of the State of Georgia Opioid Response team. The panel will educate the public on the effects of the opioid epidemic in Macon-Bibb County and other drug misuse and abuse, as well as discuss the use of Narcan to help prevent overdoses and what the community can do to help with this crisis. This event will be held at Greater Bellevue Baptist Church 4041 Mumford Road Macon, GA 31204 from 6:00 PM-7:30 PM. Honorable Rev. Derick Thomas is the Pastor. Refreshments will be served.
