Public Invited to Celebrity Chef Cook-Off Fundraiser to Benefit Youth Leadership Council
The public is invited to attend and participate in a Celebrity Chef Cook-Off on May 13, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Lizzie Chapel Baptist Church, 1180 Bartlett Street, Macon.
This fundraiser is the first community event that will be planned and implemented by the Youth Leadership Council, students who graduated YouthUp, Inc.’s Anger Management/Conflict Resolution curriculum at SOAR Academy on January 19, 2023. Executive Director Amanda Smith is proud of the willingness her students are exhibiting toward lowering the crime rate for their age group. “These Council members have accepted the challenge to be a part of the solution,” she said. “They want to engage the community in events that promote nonviolent, peaceable resolution to potential conflict and danger.”
Ten community leaders will bring their best dish(es) to the event to compete for the title “Best Chef in Macon.” Attendees will pay just $20 to sample each dish and then cast one vote for their favorite – votes will be tallied, and the winner announced and awarded prizes fit for a Master Chef. Additional votes may be purchased at just $2 each. Several Macon notables have already risen to the challenge and include such competitors as the Rev. Henry Ficklin (Mayor’s Office, Mt Vernon Baptist Church); Bibb Commissioner Elaine Lucas; Neighborhood Watch Coordinator Judy Gordon; Dr. Sundra Woodford (United Way, Bibb County Board of Education); Channel 41 Anchor Tucker Sargent; and others. There will also be a featured “Mystery Chef” revealed at the event.
Sponsored by Navicent Health Foundation and Lizzie Chapel Baptist Church, this event promises to be a fun way to treat your favorite Mom to a unique lunch event for Mother’s Day. There is limited seating for this event and tickets may be purchased in advance by telephone at (478) 733-8603 or by emailing Smith at youthupmacon@yahoo.com or at the door the day of the event.
