Senator Raphael Warnock, Congressman Sanford Bishop, Mayor Lester Miller, State Representative James Beverly, and Jessica Walden, the President of the Macon Chamber of Commerce, among others, gathered at the Ocmulgee Mounds.

Senator Raphael Warnock revealed plans to introduce legislation in Congress, aiming to establish Georgia’s inaugural national park. The senator made this announcement while visiting the Ocmulgee Mounds, a historic Native American site located in Macon.

The Ocmulgee Mounds were designated as a national historical park in the 1930s, safeguarding an area that has been inhabited by various indigenous cultures for millennia. Constructed during the Mississippi era, beginning approximately 900 AD, these mounds hold significant historical value. Senator Warnock emphasized that the Ocmulgee site isn’t merely land; rather, it stands as a living testament to the interconnected histories of our past and serves as a wellspring of economic and cultural enrichment for the region.
